Scaly-breasted munia

Characteristics

An adult scaly-breasted munia has scale-like patterns on its chest and belly. It has a stubby, gray-black, cone-shaped beak. The bird makes “pit, pit” calls, so it is also called the “oo-tshuì-pit-á” in Taiwanese.
Habits: The scaly-breasted munia likes to eat seeds of Poaceae plants. These birds often appear in open grasslands and farmlands near flats. They are active in flocks and are noisy.
Resident/Common; Body length: 11 cm
Birdwatching period: year round
